OK .... I rarely go to the movie theatre, but this month I've gone to two movies. Usually it's about 1 trip to the movie theatre every 2 years.
Dark Night ........
I am not a Batman fan. All of the other Batman movies I've seen over the years in bits and pieces have been totally uninspiring ... hence the bits and pieces.
However, Dark Night is in a class all of its own. The performances ... of all the actors ... are stellar. There is no doubt that the mesmerizing performance of Keith Ledger is simply a once in a life time happening.
What I feel is different about this Batman movie is that it leaves the realm of comic book presentation. Dark Night presents a picture with links to a possible distant dark future. It has jumped off the comic book page and into a semblance of reality.
Not for the timid .... there is a lot of violence, but well worth the "see."
OK .... Mama Mia
I just saw this last night. If Meryl Streep does get the Oscar with her performance then the whole thing has to be rigged.
MM is a total feel good movie...not always my favorite type of entertainment because of the gush of sugary affection. However, MM's celebration of life and love is infectious and you actually want the actors to break out into song. I'm not an Abba follower or fan, but it doesn't matter, the music and lyrics are captivating and the choreography is just sooooooo much fun and funny.
If you are over 50, MM particularly pulls at your heartstrings, with vows to renew your enthusiasm and your libido.
The Greek background and locals help to accentuate the earthy and passionate storytelling. I especially got a kick out of the local women because they reminded me of all the faces and aprons I was surrounded with growing up.
Go see it! Have fun! To life!
